Johan Bergström Hyldahl – Flowers & Monsters: Showroom presentation

1 - 15 October 2020
Overview

The show Flowers & Monsters consists of a new series of works on copper, and highlights themes and techniques which Johan Bergström Hyldahl has been exploring in his latest exhibition as well as in public art commissions.

Bergström Hyldahl balances – as always – between what may be seen as humorous and slow-paced poetic. The artist employs a process of ageing copper, using chemicals as a palette. The paintings in the series depict images of nature - vanitas motifs, interwoven with a set of lifelike but unfamiliar characters against a dark background.

Johan Bergström Hyldahl’s works often depart from the logic of film, a talelike narration, where slowpaced poetic introspection collides with the playful and humorous. Bergström Hyldahl has worked primarily with large-scale film projects where narration is a strong driving force, as well as with sculptural and painterly projects where characters and sceneries refer to similar stories.

The presentation Flowers & Monsters is an intermezzo leading up to MARKET Art Fair 2021 in April, where we will present a body of work consisting of digital animated sculptures (LED holograms) and three-dimensional animated pictures.
