Johan Bergström Hyldahl – MARKET Art Fair: Liljevalchs konsthall, Stockholm

I started my journey with only the stars to light the narrow path ahead of me, but it is getting brighter now. My faithful horse is trotting along the winding trail, steadfast over the rocks and roots. I can feel her warmth underneath me, as I clutch her mane. I feel the weight of my gently swaying sword in my left paw. Lifting it up, I see my reflection in the polished steel. My blue fur is illuminated by the rising sun. I shine in pink and orange hues, mountains towering behind me. It is beautiful. I look like a hero on fire. I am above the clouds. I see the top of the mountain ahead of me. In the valley on the other side is everyone I love. Between us await the two lurking beasts that have tormented us for far too long.

Cecilia Hillström Gallery is pleased to present Above the Clouds, a new body of work by Johan Bergström Hyldahl for Market Art Fair 2021, consisting of digital animated sculptures and three-dimensional backlit animated pictures. 

Johan Bergström Hyldahl, born 1984 in Stockholm, holds an MFA from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. He has also studied at Hunter College, New York (MFA), and has an MSc from Stockholm School of Economics. Bergström Hyldahl has previously exhibited at Sven-Harrys konstmuseum, Turku Art Museum, Galleri Mejan and Konsthandeln. He is represented in private and corporate collections in Sweden and abroad as well as in the collection of Public Art Agency Sweden. Public commissions include Life City, Stockholm, commissioned by Atrium Ljungberg, Hägerneholmsskolan in Täby for Arcona and Täby Kommun, Kista Library for Stockholm Art Council, Linköping University Hospital and Stena Fastigheter.
